The Fall 2016 Semester Scholarship Dinner at the University of Montana Beta Delta chapter of Sigma Chi was a great success. The alumni through their Sigma Chi Building Foundation (SCBF) awards over $45,000 in scholarships every year. Walt Kero, through the SCBF handed out over $25,000 in checks to active members of the chapter this semester. Another $20,000 will be awarded in the spring of 2017.

The Beta Delta Consul, Prabh Monder, introduced University of Montana President Royce Engstrom, who opened the dinner by congratulating the awardees and impressing upon them the importance of continuing their leadership roles in the University community. Judge Harry Haines (Montana ’58) was the guest speaker and shared a moving story of losing his best friend and Brother in a car accident. He then explained how, later, he was able to realize the dream that he and his lost Brother shared about getting into the law profession was something that he could accomplish for the both of them.

Judge Harry Haines recently retired as a federal tax judge. Thanks to the very active alumni and their immense support throughout the years, the Beta Delta Chapter has a scholarship endowment of close to $1M. The chapter is now encouraging the new initiates to apply for scholarships that are available to them as, by doing this, they will be advancing their personal benefits, as well as advancing the community’s view on the Fraternity.
